Right now, on this dreary Sunday afternoon, I'm not really doing anything. I'm sitting at my computer watching very old episodes of The Simpsons, trying to avoid bringing down the suitcases from the attic (I will be holidaying very soon) and thinking about all the things going on in the world that I would rather be doing!
I am a massive fan of the Hard Rock Cafe chains (I have been to several!) and I have always wanted to go to Hard Rock Calling; Hard Rock Cafe's music festival that takes place every year in London's Hyde Park. This year would have been a belter of a concert, the line up includes: Iggy and The Stooges, Tom Morello, Paul Simon and the Boss himself, Mr Bruce Springsteen! Although Bruce Springteen's career has spanned almost 4 decades, he is someone I have just recently got into (better late than never, I suppose!). So I would have loved to have seen him live, but again finances have held me back (London is more expensive than ever in 2012 due to The Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations and of course the 2012 Olympics being held in the glorious English capital city) but I did apply to win tickets for the event from Hard Rock's website. I did not win *sad face*.
I was quite disgruntled, appalled even, to read this morning that Bruce Springsteen had been 'silenced' by London City Council during the encore numbers of his set (also featuring my hero Sir Paul McCartney!!!). What the hell???? IT WAS A ROCK CONCERT! You do not cut off the Boss and the Knight because they ran a few minutes over the curfew. These are two music legends who are both well known for performing long and energised set lists and who don't get the opportunity to perform together often. It was a rock concert that they were invited to play at, with thousands of fans who paid good money and travelled far and wide to see them perform live. It's probably a good thing I hadn't been there to be honest. I got angry reading about this from my house in Scotland! If I had been there in Hyde Park watching the Boss rock his ass off, then get the surprise of seeing Sir Paul walk on stage with his Hoffner bass strung over his shoulder to join him for an encore of Beatle classics..then for the microphones to be switched off because they had gone a over the curfew!!!! I would have gone 'Hulk Mad'***. Both Springsteen and McCartney were forced to walk off the stage to complete silence, and they couldn't even thank the crowd. I'm sorry London City Council, I know you have a job to do and I don't mean to bad mouth you but this to music fans is pretty unforgivable. I hope for all sports fans sake you don't make a similar mistake when it comes to the Olympics - I think the general public would be less forgiving of that!
So while my inner Rock Star is missing out on Hard Rock Calling, my inner Geek is equally sad as I am also missing out on San Diego's Comic-Con! I've never been into comic books per say or even comic book movies...until Iron Man was released in 2008! I am such a huge fan of Robert Downey Jr. I think the man is incredible and without question one of the greatest actors of his generation...or any generation for that matter. I watched it because of him and I loved it. I didn't know comic book movies could be that good. I never liked Spider Man and couldn't stand any of the late 80s/early 90s Batman movies as a kid, but Iron Man was amazing. I'd never even heard of a superhero called Iron Man, but I loved it, and the love of that movie has led to my love of Captain America, Thor, The Hulk and ultimately The Avengers (or to us Brits, Avengers Assemble?!). Since it was released in May, I have been to see Avengers Assemble 7 times with different people on every visit. It's a new record for me, the previous cinema visits for one movie was Mamma Mia in 2008. I saw that 5 times, again with different people on every visit. Avengers Assemble was something very special indeed, I absolutely adored it. Movies like that are quite rare, but the film industry is quite a competitive one and there are hundreds of film makers who are determined to out do it within the next year or so. But until Avengers Assemble 2 (I am of course assuming they will be calling it that :-S) we have more Marvel sequels to look forward to that will be building up to the sequel of all sequels. They were announced yesterday at Comic-Con: Iron Man 3 in 2013, Thor 2: The Dark World and Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier. Excited much????
Apart from the Marvel movies, my other Geek pleasure is Doctor Who! I have been a fan of it since it was revived in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston playing the enigmatic Doctor, but I became slightly more obsessed with it when he regenerated into the lovely David Tennant. It is such a great show, and I'm so glad to see that it is now doing so well in the USA. I love the current line up; Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill as the main characters and they are all there at Comic-Con this weekend. Bummer! Ah well, there's always next year.
So while all that's going on I plan on bringing down the suitcase and trying to figure out what I'm going to pack for the holidays! But I can't be bothered to do that right now so maybe I'll just keep on watching very old episodes of The Simpsons (so old are these episodes that Waylon Smithers is actually black with blue hair!!!!)
Happy Sunday everyone!
Peace and Love

***Hulk Mad - a phrase I made up. People close to me now know that when I use the phrase 'Hulk Mad' they need to step away as I am too angry for words! I may use it more on here if I feel like having a rant!

It's Only Rock 'n' Roll, But I Like It!
50 years of sex, drugs and unbelievable rock & roll...Happy Birthday to The Rolling Stones!
![]() |
| The original line up. Mick Jagger, Brian Jones, Keith (Keef) Richards, Bill Wyman & Charlie Watts. |
What an amazing 50 years it has been in music. I know I am for too young to be using the phrase, 'they don't make them like that anymore' but man alive! They DON'T make them like that anymore.
How many bands that started off in the early 1960s with nothing but raw talent, arrogance and an ambitious drive would plan on still being together half a century later. Not without their scandalous controversies over the years and not having a top 20 hit since the 1980s, The Rolling Stones have never not been popular since their first number one.
It was through my love for The Beatles at an early age that I discovered The Rolling Stones. They were the same but different. Both from England, only opposite ends. Both managed to do excellent covers versions of classic rock n roll hits of the 50s and wrote their own music. Both had sex appeal, teenage girls swooned over them. Both were electrifying to watch perform live. And most importantly, both have managed to remain popular with people of all ages. The crucial difference of course being the band set up. The Beatles were four individual members who shared the lime light with no appointed leader of the band, every girl had their favourite Beatle. The Rolling Stones had Mick Jagger; a smouldering snake hipped go getter who led the band to the top and made them stand out in the crowd. One of the greatest front men of a band ever! His loud and imperfect voice spoke for an entire generation. His partnership with Keith Richards gave us classic tunes such as: 19th Nervous Breakdown, Brown Sugar, Jumpin' Jack Flash, She's a Rainbow, Miss You, Paint It Black, Honky Tonk Woman, (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction, Let's Spend the Night Together, It's Only Rock 'n' Roll, and my personal favourite The Last Time.
The Rolling Stones were cool and dangerous. Their legendary stories have passed into Rock 'n' Roll history and folklore (a great story involving a drugs bust, Mick Jagger, Marianne Faithfull and a Mars Bar). But they have also seen some tragedies on the way. In 1969, founding member Brian Jones died (suspiciously) when he drowned in his swimming pool at the age of 27 (thus making him a founding member of the infamous 27 Club). Despite this, they carried on. A few new guys here and there (most notable Ronnie Wood) but the main interest still lies with the three original and surviving members of the group: Mick Jagger, the accountant who'll shag your sister when you're not looking. Keef Richards, the walking chemistry set who should have died about 20 years ago but he's still doing fine. And dear old Charlie Watts who's been drumming for over 50 years now and still doesn't have a clue where he is.
I've loved them since I was a kid and I know I always will. They are the band everyone wants to be in. I've never seen them perform live but I hope I do one day. They'll keep playing until they are fucking dead, i'm sure of it.

The sun ain't gonna shine anymore...
Another miserable afternoon - there literally has not been a day in July yet where it hasn't rained. It's supposed to be summer for goodness sake. I know Scotland is notorious the world over for having bad weather but this is just ridiculous. The last thing I hear at night before falling asleep is the rain violently thrashing against my window and the first thing I hear in the morning is a slightly lighter pitter patter of the same bloody rain! It's like this all day long, it's so miserable that you can't tell what time of day it is by looking out the window (something you can normally do in sunny Scotland). It's the same dull grey sky all day long. Even a rainbow now and again would be nice, i'd be slightly more forgiving. I love a rainbow...but not as much as I love the sun!
It's a shame for kids, who are now at the beginning of their school holidays, who can't play outside or get the paddling pool out or have a picnic with their wee buddy's. That's the type of stuff I used to love doing when I was a nipper. I was never indoors I LOVED playing outside, even in the rain, but the sunny days were always the best. When I think back to the glory days of being a child outside playing with all the neighbourhood kids nearly all of my memories feature glorious sunshine. Even during winter when we were in the garden building a snowman there was still sunshine. We're right in the middle of festival season and Scotland's biggest music festival, T in the Park has just come to a very wet and muddy end. I also know of a few people who have either attended or had a wedding in July who have not been able to have any pictures taken outside because of the rain. It's ironic really, most people in the UK attempt to have a summer wedding (specifically July) because there is a better chance of having some sun. Not in 2012 it would seem. But hey, it's only the 9th day of the month. Let's hope things brighten up along the way - we really do deserve it!

The Afternoon after the Night before...
Well folks, I'm happy to announce, my first ever Rock Band night was a success! A few cancellations here and there (to be honest, some were expected!), lots of fun, laughter, drinking and most important - lots of rocking...and a fantastic night was had by all ;-)
As I sit here typing to you, my wet hair is held up by a clip, i'm drinking fat Cola from a can, i'm munching my way through a HUGE bag of Bacon Tasty's (Bacon Flavoured Wheat Snacks) and the second half of Cadbury's Milk Tray whilst watching Paint Your Wagon on Sky Classics! If there is anyone who hasn't seen this movie then you are sorely missing out. The first time I ever seen Paint Your Wagon was about two years ago when my aunty Mary, my big cousin Kris and his girlfriend Fiona and I all got together one Saturday for a Western Musicals Day. We started with Paint your Wagon first as no-one had seen it, and to be honest, no-one was particularly looking forward to it...we couldn't have been more wrong. It was the highlight of the day! (A huge compliment as other movies that were watched that day were the classics; Seven Brides For Seven Brothers and Calamity Jane). It's amazing to see Clint Eastwood in his cowboy gear and not be intimidating in the slightest. Then you have Lee Marvin, who I think hits the lowest note in the history of music when he 'belts out' Wandering Star. The music, the story and all of the characters just make Paint Your Wagon a genuinely enjoyable movie. It's totally worth watching at least once in your life. Clint sings for goodness sake!
Also want to take this time to wish a very Happy Birthday to the legend that is, Mr Ringo Starr! This time 2 years ago I was in New York City at the Hard Rock Cafe standing directly behind Ringo in a huge crowd of other Beatle fans wishing him all the best for his 70th birthday. What a great day that was. I have been a fan of The Beatles since I was 8 years old. I never thought in my lifetime that I would ever see/meet/get close to any of The Beatles, and there I was. 22 years old and standing behind the drummer of my all time favourite band on such a special occasion. It was magic.
Well tonight for me is another Rock Band night. Not me hosting I might add, just attending. A lot of singing, drinking, eating and rocking out again for me. By Sunday morning I will have no voice at all. Well i'm off to dry and straighten my wet hair. Have a good weekend folks.

Fight for your right...to PARTAY!!!
Tonight I am making all of my last minute plans for my first ever house party tomorrow evening!
I still live with my mum (sad, but true, still can't afford a place of my own) and she is away for two days to a friends wedding which means for 48 hours, I'm the Queen of this Palace. You see it's my mums house...I just live in it.
I am a HUGE fan of Rock Band - a video game of sorts available on most consoles, I have it for the Wii. Rock Band gives you the chance become a Rock Star. You can sing, play guitar, bass, drums and even keyboard! I have attended and helped co-host many a Rock Band evening at friends and families houses but never had the opportunity to host my own as my mum lives like a hermit and rarely goes out. But now the time has come! I decided to invite family and colleagues to this, I always go into work after many a weekend telling them how wonderful it is but none of them have actually played it. What the hell, i'll have my own one and invite the team.
| I can't sing for love nor money, but even then you still have to fight me for the microphone! |
The invites have been sent (by Facebook), the food and drink have been purchased, the house has been dusted and hoovered and the songs have been purchased and uploaded on to the Wii. Still have to move all the Rock Band instruments down the stairs, set up all the bits and pieces, sort out all the cutlery and on top of all that, I have a perfume party to attend!!! I could be doing all of that, instead i'm sitting at my desk top drinking fruit juice from a wine glass, writing this blog and listening to iTunes on shuffle (current song, Blackberry Way by The Move). I'll finish this blog now, along with the fruit juice as the song draws to a close. Hopefully there will be a post-party post for the blog that will say something like: 'and a fantastic night was had by all'...only time will tell. Wish me luck!

They say it's your Birthday? Well it's my Birthday too, yeah!
As I write this, I am 24 years and a day old! The birthday has passed and I had a fantastic day.
My 2 friends and their 2 sons (5 & 1 year old) and I had a long lunch at American Italian restaurant and family favourite Frankie & Benny's then went for a long shopping spree in Livingston Shopping Centre. We had a lovely meal. We started with the sharing platter (or as we like to call them, Big Fat Platters). They consist of a few portions of: BBQ chicken wings, garlic bread, chicken strips, bread sticks, onion rings, stuffed potato jackets and a choice of four dips. For main course, Jileen and I had the bacon cheeseburger with fries while Claire had the New York chicken with fries and a corn on the cob. To finish and because my birthday is America's Independence Day, I had a Yankee Doodle Sundae, Jileen had waffles and ice cream and Claire had pecan cheesecake. The kids of course ate from the kiddie menu and played with their fun packs while us girls gossiped at the table.
3 hours later, we then moved over to the shopping centre and headed straight for Primark (we love to shop, by my God to we love a bargain). We were in here for a long time too. Claire was mostly buying for her one year old son and Jileen was buying for her son and 2 nieces who were staying over from Australia. I of course was buying for me with my birthday money. I got a lovely 60s inspired mini dress and 2 pairs of gladiator shoes, one pair sparkly, the other pair just an ordinary brown that will match pretty much anything.
Summer in the UK started at the beginning of June but we have barely seen any sunshine since then! July has been nothing but rainy and miserable and yesterday was no exception. With us being in such a busy shopping centre and the horrible muggy/humid heat we were totally parched. We headed to Witherspoons for a drink (non alcoholic as I was driving) and took a bit of time to chill there and gossip a bit more. This is where Claire had decided to end her day as the littlest dude was getting sleepy. We said our goodbyes to Claire and Logan and Jileen, Aedan and I headed out to Matalan.
Another good relatively cheap clothes shop that we both love, but this has something Primark does NOT have...shopping trolleys! While Jileen led the way through the shop, I pushed Aedan around in the trolley chatting about The Avengers and play doh! This was taking place much later on in the day so the shop was almost completely empty, so that gave me the opportunity for Aedan and I to 'spin' in the trolley whilst singing Be Bop A Lula and Bye Bye Love. His mum and dad having been switching him on to 50s music, something Aedan and I can bond over as I too was about the same age when I first discovered the music of the 50s. And I've loved it ever since.
At 8pm we decided to call it a day. It had been a long day, but a fantastic day. This was the first birthday in 3 years that I had spent in Scotland. For my 21st I was in Las Vegas, my 22nd I was in New York and last year for my 23rd I was in Liverpool. This was just another fantastic year for the old memory bank (I totally didn't mean to put in the word 'old' there!!!). It really doesn't matter where you are, as long as you are having fun!
P.S. Happy Independence Day to all you Yanks out there. Hope you enjoyed your day as much as I did :-)

The Big 2&4
So tomorrow (July 4th) is my birthday. I'll be 24 years old. 24!!!! That seems old! I'm officially in my mind 20s, supposed to be an adult but still feel like 19 years old...and occasionally have the mind set of a 5 year old, depending on how excited I get!
It's weird when I discuss this with friends who are the same age. As of August I will be able to say to a small portion of my friends, 'Can you believe we have been friends for 20 years???' What the hell? You're supposed to be about 50 before you can say stuff like that, not 24! Still, its incredible when you think about it; to have a few people in your life, who are not family, but friends you yourself made when you walked through the doors to your nursery group at the tender age of four. Barely able to structure an entire sentence, let a lone a conversation at that age. Completely unaware of the challenges and fun times the next 20 years will bring, and hoping you'll see it through together. I feel incredibly lucky that I've managed to keep a hold of 3 of those nursery chums of mine. I've been on holiday with one, (unofficial)godmother to the daughter of another and next year I will proudly be walking behind as a bridesmaid to the eldest of the group as she gets married...but we still refuse to believe we've known each other for 20 years!
That's the other thing that got me! My best friend, who is almost a fortnight older than me, reminded me that we are now in our mid 20s! In a day I will go from being in my early 20s to my mid 20s! That's like a damn decade!
This got me thinking about my bucket list. (For those who are unaware of this concept, The Bucket List is a list of things you would like to do before you die). I started writing mine at the tail end of last year. I was inspired to do this after watching the reality TV/comedy show, An Idiot Abroad. I am a huge fan of Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant and the aforementioned hero of the show Karl Pilkington. I have seen and heard everything they have ever done but An Idiot Abroad was something special. In the first season Karl got to go to the 7 modern wonders of the world and give his opinion on them. The show was fantastic, a big success which led the way for the second series in which Karl has to complete a Bucket List compiled by Ricky and Steve. Even though their intentions were mostly for comedy purposes and to wind Karl up, I found myself feeling incredibly jealous of him. He had the opportunity to do some of the most incredible things at the expense of Sky TV! (I actually work for Sky, can't ever see them ever offering me such an experience, no matter how many calls I take!). After the series ended I wrote up my own list. In the last seven months, I'm sorry to say, the list is only getting longer...not shorter. And for your viewing pleasure, here it is:
(In no particular order)

In the beginning...
Hello all and welcome to my blog!
Where do I start? I suppose I should tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Terri, I'm (as of 3/7/2012) 23 years and 364 days old, I'm Scottish, 5ft 10, an only child, an atheist, a frustrated writer, music geek, movie buff, telly addict, a lover of all things retro and I can't stop eating!
The idea of starting a blog has always intrigued me, but lack of confidence has always held me back. Who'd want to read this? What's the point? What if I can't be bothered to keep it up?...but what if I enjoyed it? What if I really grow to love it? What if I learn a lot more about the world around me by reading other strangers blogs? The pros won over the cons, thus the blog was born!
I owe a big thanks to my good friend Jileen Harkins who started a blog some time ago and has done such a fantastic job with it. It was she who inspired and coached me into starting my own. For any of you who are interested or a fan of DIY, check her out at http://jileenharkins.blogspot.co.uk/
At the moment I have no plans what I will be writing about for the blog, I suppose in some cases I will be treating this much like a diary (something I always promised myself I would do, but never kept it up) and other posts will be about/regarding things I love. So expect a lot of music (particularly The Beatles), movie, TV, concerts, clothing and food essays. I'll try to be as entertaining as possible.
Peace and Love

Where do I start? I suppose I should tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Terri, I'm (as of 3/7/2012) 23 years and 364 days old, I'm Scottish, 5ft 10, an only child, an atheist, a frustrated writer, music geek, movie buff, telly addict, a lover of all things retro and I can't stop eating!
