The Big 2&4

So tomorrow (July 4th) is my birthday. I'll be 24 years old. 24!!!! That seems old! I'm officially in my mind 20s, supposed to be an adult but still feel like 19 years old...and occasionally have the mind set of a 5 year old, depending on how excited I get!

It's weird when I discuss this with friends who are the same age. As of August I will be able to say to a small portion of my friends, 'Can you believe we have been friends for 20 years???' What the hell? You're supposed to be about 50 before you can say stuff like that, not 24! Still, its incredible when you think about it; to have a few people in your life, who are not family, but friends you yourself made when you walked through the doors to your nursery group at the tender age of four. Barely able to structure an entire sentence, let a lone a conversation at that age. Completely unaware of the challenges and fun times the next 20 years will bring, and hoping you'll see it through together. I feel incredibly lucky that I've managed to keep a hold of 3 of those nursery chums of mine. I've been on holiday with one, (unofficial) godmother to the daughter of another and next year I will proudly be walking behind as a bridesmaid to the eldest of the group as she gets married...but we still refuse to believe we've known each other for 20 years!

That's the other thing that got me! My best friend, who is almost a fortnight older than me, reminded me that we are now in our mid 20s! In a day I will go from being in my early 20s to my mid 20s! That's like a damn decade!

This got me thinking about my bucket list. (For those who are unaware of this concept, The Bucket List is a list of things you would like to do before you die). I started writing mine at the tail end of last year. I was inspired to do this after watching the reality TV/comedy show, An Idiot Abroad. I am a huge fan of Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant and the aforementioned hero of the show Karl Pilkington. I have seen and heard everything they have ever done but An Idiot Abroad was something special. In the first season Karl got to go to the 7 modern wonders of the world and give his opinion on them. The show was fantastic, a big success which led the way for the second series in which Karl has to complete a Bucket List compiled by Ricky and Steve. Even though their intentions were mostly for comedy purposes and to wind Karl up, I found myself feeling incredibly jealous of him. He had the opportunity to do some of the most incredible things at the expense of Sky TV! (I actually work for Sky, can't ever see them ever offering me such an experience, no matter how many calls I take!). After the series ended I wrote up my own list. In the last seven months, I'm sorry to say, the list is only getting longer...not shorter. And for your viewing pleasure, here it is:
(In no particular order)

  • Sky Dive
  • Drive Route 66
  • Start a Blog
  • See 'The Who'
  • Drive a Car into a Swimming Pool
  • Swim with dolphins
  • Own a Jukebox
  • Learn to play guitar
  • Learn to bake
  • Learn to Waltz
  • Write a sitcom
  • Be in the audience for a TV chat show
  • Be in the audience for Eurovision
  • Go to Italy
  • Go to the following places in America: LA, Washington, Chicago, Texas, Memphis, San Diego, Boston
  • Go on tour
  • Go to Alton Towers
  • Go to the Globe Theatre
  • Drive a bus
  • Own a 'hippie' VW Camper Van
  • Crowd surf
  • Shake hands with a Royal
  • Get teeth fixed
  • Run through a field naked on a nice sunny day
  • Go to a baseball game
  • Go to a basketball game
  • Go to an auction
As you can see, I've completed number 3 :-)

That's the annoying thing about The Bucket List - you don't know how much time you've got. Financially I can't afford to do all of that, but my word, I have the guts. I shall keep you informed of this as we go along...and any other updates that I might add to it

Peace and Love
TT
